Cycle = FAIL

This injection cycle is a huge failure. I did not respond enough to the FSH injections so the cycle is done. Another wasted month. A waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of positive thinking. What is the point of positive thinking and having hope, just for it all to crash down on your face?

We have one more thing to try, we will go back to the injections I did earlier this year (menopur) and double the dosage. This is the last thing to try before being told to move on to IVF.

Our specialist asked me last week if IVF would be an option for us. Ugh.

Yeah sure it is, because we have $20,000 laying around!

If I were to rob a bank, don't blame me. Blame the world. Blame the country we live in. Blame insurance companies. Because how is it right that we need $20,000 to try to make our baby? Insurance doesn't help. There's no charities for this. Most people don't even want to talk about this subject.

So how is a normal couple supposed to pay for this? $20,000. Imagine that. That is a new car. That is a down payment on a home. That is a degree from a state university. That is 4000 five dollar bills.

So I guess it's time to go find a job to pay to have a chance at maybe having our baby.

  1. Hi Kelly, I was in your shoes a couple years ago and considered all my options for a long time. By reading your blog I can tell that you really, really want a baby of your own. At what point do you decide that you've paid enough money, cried enough tears, and spent enough time? If what you really want is a baby of your own and to start a family, does it matter where the baby came from? There are so many unwanted babies in the world who need a loving mother to take them in. That is what I did and I am so happy that I did, I love my baby just as I would if I had carried her. I know you mentioned being frustrated with insurance companies not helping fertility treatments, however I do feel that this is an elective procedure. I know that this is a procedure you really want to have because of a condition you have (PCOS), but fertility treatment is not a life saving procedure, it's an elective procedure. No insurance companies I know of cover any elective surgery. Having been through a similar experience, I worked hard and saved up my money for an adoption. Working minimum wage for just a year will save you so much money if your husband is covering all other household expenses.

    1. Hi Malika! Thank you for reading my blog!
      We still have some hope for having our own child, until we have tried everything we cannot move on from this chapter in our lives. I will be searching for a job so we can save up money to try IVF.
      As for insurance, I have friends who checked with their insurance for infertility coverage. They don't cover it. But their insurance covers breast implants, sex change, and abortions. These are all elective to me, yet some insurance covers these. That blows my mind!
      We will see what the future holds for us, we are still hoping that we will have our baby!
